Comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cancer care is delivered at Seidman Cancer Center, the only free standing cancer hospital in Ohio. A simple elevator ride takes you between our large radiation oncology department, infusion center, breast center, and numerous inpatient floors and outpatient surgery and medicine clinics.

The major advantage of proton therapy treatment over standard radiation therapy is that protons slowly deposit their energy as they travel towards the cancerous tumor, and then due to a unique physical characteristic called the Bragg Peak, deposit the majority of the radiation dose directly in the tumor and travel no further through the body.

Of the nearly 900 cancer centers in the USA only 51 have achieved NCI designated status as comprehensive cancer center. This is based on excellence in scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of their research in basic, clinical, and/or prevention, cancer control, and population science. The comprehensive cancer center was one of only a few that received “exceptional” status.

UH Seidman is part of only 32 Lead Academic Participating Sites, and is a leader in clinical trial accrual.
